Welcome to the third edition of the UP-RISE newsletter! This issue celebrates major milestones across the UP-RISE community. We are proud to introduce the final seven PhD students, completing our diverse and vibrant UP-RISE PhD community of twelve young researchers. The academic community plays a crucial role in ensuring the right to food for all requires collective action to tackle hunger and poverty. In Johannesburg, our third General Assembly brought together partners from across Europe and Africa for three inspiring days of collaboration and innovation. From traditional fermented foods to gender dynamics in food systems, the discussions were rich, solution-oriented, and grounded in real-world impact. We are also excited to share news of our new partnership with the FS4Africa project, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the World Mycotoxin Forum in Salzburg, as we work together to strengthen food safety across the continent.
