UP-RISE participated in the 21st CAADP Partnership Platform and the 16th Africa Day for Food and Nutrition Security in Kigali (29–31 October 2025), marking the first African Union conference since the Kampala Declaration. At the side event, “Safe Foods for Resilient Futures: Innovations for Accelerating Just, Nutrition-Sensitive Agrifood Systems Transformation in Africa,” UP-RISE, together with the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) and Food Safety for Africa (FS4Africa), presented actionable strategies to integrate food safety into agrifood transformation, bridging policy and practice for sustainable, nutrition-sensitive growth.
Specific Objectives:
- Position food safety as central to accelerating just and resilient agrifood systems for nutrition and sustainable growth in Africa, in line with CAADP’s new vision.
- Showcase innovations, policy models, and research findings from FS4Africa and Up-Rise, with a focus on informal sectors, gender equity, and youth empowerment.
- Facilitate dialogue on governance models for inclusive food safety systems, particularly in the informal sector.
Expected Outcomes:
- Greater recognition of food safety as a pillar of just and resilient agrifood transformation under CAADP.
- Increased visibility and adoption of Up-Rise and FS4Africa tools and frameworks in policymaking, especially in informal sector contexts.
- Stakeholder contributions to an AU-level policy brief on integrating food safety within the Kampala CAADP Strategy and Action Plan.
